A mother and her 18 year old daughter have died after spending several days hospitalized in critical condition from injuries sustained when a wall collapsed on top of them during a rainstorm in Roda de Bera, in Tarragona province. The two women were sheltering from the storm at a stall in the port's craft market, alongside the daughter's grandfather, when the force of the water brought down the wall separating the street from a private property.
Last Saturday's storm left eleven people injured across several coastal towns and prompted emergency services to field 829 calls to the 112 line. The Baix Penedes and Tarragones areas were hit hardest, with El Vendrell, Creixell and Torredembarra among the municipalities that suffered the worst damage from the flash flooding.
A second storm hit the area on Monday night, during which medical teams treated around thirty people and four had to be hospitalized. The two bouts of heavy rain caused flooding, rescues and significant material damage across several parts of the province.
Roda de Bera's town council confirmed the deaths of the two residents and declared two days of official mourning in the municipality. The council has not released the victims' identities, though it confirmed both had remained in critical condition from Saturday morning until their deaths this week.
