Philip Morris International presented its second EU Economic Footprint study on October 15 at the Solvay Library in Brussels, prepared by the consulting firm EY Parthenon. The report puts the company's contribution to the European economy between 2021 and 2025 at 343 billion euros, an amount equivalent to roughly 0.4 percent of European GDP over that period.
According to the study, the tobacco company spent 22.3 billion euros with European suppliers, invested 27.4 billion in its operations on the continent, and dedicated 2.6 billion to research and development.
On employment, the company's activity sustained around 164,000 jobs in 2025, of which roughly 22,500 are direct employees, in addition to jobs generated through its supplier network and the wider economy.
